“Blogging” For Fun & Profits

Posted in Blogs + Bookmarks by admin on the May 21st, 2009

Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last year, you’ve
heard the term “blog” once or twice.

To most people, a “blog” simply represents a glorified
online “diary” where geeks, computer nerds, and lonely
teenagers record their thoughts in cyber-space.

However, many people don’t realize that “blogs” are quietly
revolutionizing the way companies and customers interact
about everything from existing products to new ideas and
improvements in customer service.

In short, “blog” style communication has come of age and
anyone with an online business better sit up and take
notice fast!

In the beginning, “blogs” were basically an online diary to
record your thoughts; but “blogs” have now evolved into
dynamic websites that non-technical people can update
immediately without html editors or ftp programs.

Blogs allow their authors to make instant website updates
through a computer anywhere in the world with a Web browser
and Internet connection.

Blogs also allow readers to respond to the author’s posts,
provide additional information, links, expanded opinions,
and more.

In short, an active “blog” creates an interactive community
with the author as the hub and the readers as the spokes of
the wheel that keep the whole cycle turning round.

Unlike traditional “static” web pages where content rarely
(if ever) changes, an active blog evolves in a state of
constant and never-ending renewal.

With blogs, smart online businesses re-discovered a
principal that small “mom and pop” stores understood for
years: know your customers and stay in close tune with
their wants, needs, and desires.

Large companies throw billions of dollars down a black hole
every year to literally “guess” what people want to buy.
Most call it the “Marketing Department.”

On the flipside, smart online businesses understand that
blogs allow you to avoid guessing what’s on your customers’
minds and provide an active and up-to-the-minute means for
them to tell you exactly what they do and don’t like about
your services, products, and virtually any other aspect of
the market.

This lightning fast communication makes it possible for
small companies to literally snatch huge market share away
from more traditional companies.

Blogging also has a distinct advantage over traditional
email newsletters in that subscribers can get udpates
without having to receive an email message. Through the
power of RSS (real simple syndication), subscribers get
notified of updated content though an rss news reader.

Bottom Line: publishing a blog with an RSS feed that your
readers can subscribe to means your content NEVER gets
blocked by a SPAM filter.

Blog software basically comes in 2 flavors: hosted and
stand-alone. Hosted blogging solutions make it extremely
easy to get set up with a blog, often in just a couple of
minutes.

If you know how to type, you can create a blog. Log on to
Blogger.com and you can set up a blog free of charge and
start posting in just a few minutes.

Blogger.com (owned by search giant, Google) will even host
your blog on their servers.

Typepad.com, which charges as little as $4.95 per month, is
also an excellent hosted service offering additional
features that enable you to quickly get your own blog up
and running.

The alternative is stand-alone blogging software installed
on your own website.

A very popular solution is Moveable Type, available from
moveabletype.org, which provides a very versatile and
powerful suite of tools for creating a full-featured blog
to rival that of any size company in the world.

<-- Side Note -->

This is the solution I’ve chosen for my blog at

http://www.IGottaTellYou.com/blog/

<-- End Side Note -->

Whichever blogging solution you choose, if you plan to
successfully conduct any form of business online,
understand that a “blog” must form an integral part of your
overall plan for customer communication and interaction.

Posted in Blogs + Bookmarks by admin on the April 8th, 2009

MSN uses a search engine crawler known as MSNBot; You have to tell MSNBot to crawl your blog or website.

I do not know why MSN indexes blogs(Blogger especially)during such a short time; I guess its because they are hungry for new pages…

I found this secret whilst trying to get my websites indexed into search engines for Free, and that was a while ago.

This is what you have to do, step-by-step:

1. Go to MSN.com and search your blog address. It will be BLOGNAME.blogspot.com for Blogger blogs.

2. MSN will say “We couldn’t find any results containing BLOGNAME.blogspot.com”

and 4 lines below there is a link with the text “Send the address to Us” Click that link to index your blog.

3. You now have access to MSNBot. You’ll see a code verification system; type the correct code and the URL of your blogger or wordpress blog.

Remember to include the http://…

Within 3 days your blog will be indexed! When your blog gets indexed, try this system with your websites too.

Getting indexed in Yahoo is a bit harder, and takes longer.

1) Go to Altavista.com

2) Click on “Submit a Site”

3) You’ll see 3 options… Click “Basic Submit”. You’ll need a Yahoo! account for this.

Using Real Estate Web Feeds For House-Hunting

Posted in Blogs + Bookmarks by admin on the April 8th, 2009

Web feeds, or RSS, has exploded in popularity over the last few years. It’s a powerful marketing tool that will have a major affect on real estate marketing. Millions of people use web feeds every day. Most users view feeds through Newsreaders, but many web browsers and future operating systems are incorporating this technology.

If you are looking for a house or a place to rent, use web feeds to keep up with the latest listings. You can use feeds to easily keep track of properties from a wide variety of sources. As new properties are added to the feeds, you are notified almost immediately. If you see something you like, you can go directly to that property’s web page. This saves time over continually checking individual web sites for updates.

Many real estate websites offer the ability to subscribe to email updates. Unlike e-mail, web feeds have a 100% delivery rate and there is no risk of spam problems.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult these days to find real estate professionals offering web feeds, let alone feeds that are purely property-driven or contain news specific to a certain geographic area. A majority of feeds are offered through ‘blogs’ of various qualities. More savvy professionals break their web feeds into categories, such as commercial, rentals and residential properties. Even mortgage finance professionals can use web feeds to keep customers and potential customers aware of market changes.

As web feeds become more popular with the average user, expect more real estate professionals offering their listings via web feeds. If you aren’t finding the feeds you want, ask for them!

S.R. Daley is the web developer for http://www.myrealtyfeed.com, a service that allows real estate professionals to maintain multiple RSS feeds with a simple web interface. Those who have real estate feeds can submit them to http://realtyfeedsearch.com — a free real estate feed directory.

Blog Reflection

Posted in Blogs + Bookmarks by admin on the February 19th, 2009

I still consider myself to be a blog writing novice but as I’ve got a few entries under my belt I can tell you about an unexpected bonus of this journaling process. A lot of people think that blog writers are just people who are tooting their own horns blabbering on self-righteously about what they believe to be true in life. On the contrary, for me writing a blog has helped me to reflect on my experiences that I may have otherwise have forgotten if I hadn’t written them down. It has become a process of self-actualization, whether others have read my thoughts has become less of a priority for me.

When I read over my past entries I am surprised to hear about thoughts, ideas, and wisdom that is quite relevant to my present experiences. It’s like I already knew some of the solutions to my problems in the present, but I still had to go through the experiences to actually have this knowledge become truly learnt. I also find it rewarding in both the respects that I get to ‘relive’ certain moments in my life, and I get to analyze my previous thoughts. This analysis often leads me to new ideas that I couldn’t see clearly when I was in the original moment.

‘Reliving’ past experiences by reading old journal entries can be a powerful experience indeed. You can be transported to the moment in time you were writing about, as well as the moment and feelings you had when writing the blog entry. Experiencing these events and feelings again can be a really enlightening process, especially if the emotions you had were strong ones.

An example of this from my blog www.thepowerofeverythingthatis.com is a recent upheaval of emotions I wrote about when a young lady I’d been dating and really started to like a lot told me she didn’t want to kiss me anymore. Now when I read this entry I can feel those same painful feelings, but in a new light as the time has passed and I’ve moved on. It gives me hope in understanding that all feelings pass, and also in the knowledge that all things happen for a reason. This knowledge I couldn’t see at the time as I was totally enveloped by my agony.

These insights into past feelings and thoughts have been an eye opener for my self-introspection process. I think the blog can give you the chance to get to know yourself better, something all humans could find beneficial. All of us are on quests to find out who we are and why we are here on Earth. The blogging process might just be another avenue for people to find out who they truly are. Keep on writing my friends!

Build a Better Blog

Posted in Blogs + Bookmarks by admin on the February 10th, 2009

So, you’re blogging. Congratulations! Are you thrilled with your site or do you wish it had more to it? More traffic…more pictures…more ad revenue… I know exactly what you mean! If you want a jam up blog, then going with the status quo is not something that you want to do. Instead, set your blog apart from the pack and your blog will really rock. You might even make a little extra income too!

Jet Movements and The Article Writer are the two blogs I currently manage. I also blog on a few other sites and I am considering becoming a paid blogger for a popular business site. Still, my blogs have to perform to the level I want them to perform and that involves some hard work and dedication on my part. I’m up to that challenge!

Traffic Patterns - I’ve built traffic to my blogs by linking them to several other sites that I manage. Might as well take advantage of what I own to promote what I manage. In addition, when I blog elsewhere I am not shy about linking back to my blog. Finally, I add tons of links to each blog and this move has kept the traffic flowing.

Get Pictures - Yes, including pictures with your blog entries is a must. Maybe not with every entry, but at least with some of the entries. On my Jet Movements blog, I frequently contact companies and ask them if I can get a logo or some other picture that they own and use it with a blog about that company. Naturally, I am not about to bash the company, so don’t go that route if you want their help. Many are only too happy to oblige as they see you helping them promote their business.

Get Press Releases - Okay, copying and pasting press releases verbatim is a bit dull. However, quoting parts of the press release and linking back to it can be good. I have seen blogs where a passing reference is made to a press release, but the words are strictly the author’s. Gives the blog a unique and interesting touch to it.

Get Templates - I uses WordPress and the number of different templates associated with this blogging software is amazing. Still, the default WordPress 1.5 template is rather nice and I still use it for my Jet Movements blog. For my The Article Writer blog, I downloaded an uncluttered, but bright template that is easy on the eyes and nice looking.

Ad Mania - All right, no need to overwhelm your visitors with ads, but going “ad-less” doesn’t make all that much sense either. The requisite AdSense ads can be helpful as can any banner ad space that you can sell. You might as well bring in a bit of income for all of your hard work!

Truly, there is much that you can do to build a better blog. If you want to shoot your blog to the top, it does take work…and plenty of it! Put the sweat equity into your blog and you will reap the reward of more traffic and greater income. Get noticed and get blogging today!

Everything About Video Blogging, or Vblogging

Posted in Blogs + Bookmarks by admin on the February 8th, 2009

It had to happen. First blogging - weblogging - catches on like
wildfire, and everyone is posting their thoughts, tirades, or
just minutiae online in their own blogs. Then podcasting came
around - the equivalent of blogging in audio form. Today, the
hottest new thing is video blogging (also called vblogging or
vlogging).

What Is a Video Blog?

In its simplest form, a video blog (vblog or vlog) is the
posting of serial videos to a website, with an audience response
encouraged. Even though this new form of web communication is in
its infancy, videobloggers have already started making regular
postings online.

Many vbloggers are using video blogging to create their own
miniprograms, using an RSS feed to deliver new episodes
automatically. Others are experimenting with the new technology.
Like any new community technology, there is no telling where
vblogging is going to go in the future.

Why Use a Video Blog?

You may already express yourself in a regular blog. Think about
all the communication you’re not delivering by writing
everything down: the smug little facial expressions, the tone of
your voice, and the clever repartee between you and a
partner.

Besides this, video blogs are a fantastic tool to deliver
indescribable content. Being in the right place at the right
time can make your video blog take off. Or if you like to blog
about sporting events, a video blog can enable you to capture
the action and deliver it to your fans, not just describe it in
too-pale words.

If you’re a long way from home, a video blog can also be a great
way to keep up with friends and family. Think of it as a great
new way to share the baby’s first steps with his or her
grandparents.

And then, you may have harbored a secret dream to be the next
great television newscaster or reporter. A video blog may be
your perfect chance.

How To Make a Video Blog

Creating a video blog isn’t as straightforward as regular
blogging. With an ordinary blog, you just have to be able to
type in a regular post. But with vblogging, you’ll need to have
access to a good computer that can work with movie programs as
well as a camera that can take video as well as snapping shots.

The first part is the easiest: create your digital video on your
camera or camcorder. There are an infinite number of ways you
can put your vblog together; you’re not tied to a studio and you
don’t have to adhere to any rules you haven’t made up yourself.
Once your video has been created, you should download it to your
computer in preparation for formatting and compressing it.

You can use a variety of different movie programs to work with
your video blog, but the most commonly used are iMovie (for Mac,
comes as part of the OS) or Movie Maker (for PC, comes as part
of Windows). Others widely used are Final Cut Pro and Avid
Free DV. If your camera or videocam create movies in
Quicktime format, Avid Free DV is a great idea.

Once your movie is downloaded, you can use your movie program to
make any video clip changes, insert new film, create titles
and/or subtitles, and even add music to your video.

After you’ve finished editing your movie, you’ll need to
compress it in preparation for uploading to your vblog. But
here’s the catch. You want the movie compressed as far as
possible so your audience will be able to download it and view
it quickly; but the smaller you compress your movie, the less
sharp your video quality will be. The idea is to find a happy
medium, with your movie as small as possible, but with enough
resolution left that your audience isn’t squinting to turn your
grainy square-pixellated image into something vaguely human.

As you work with changing the compression of your movie, you
should be able to monitor the predicted file size at the bottom
of the dialog window (in any of the above programs). Ideally,
you want to compress your movie into no more than 5 megabytes
(5000 K, roughly). If possible, you should compress it down to a
single megabyte. Video blogs filmed with minimal movement and
with a solid-colored screen behind the vblogger’s head will
compress the most, but they’re the least fun type of video blog
to create.

After you’ve compressed your video blog, you’re ready to post it
online. As a compressed Quicktime movie, you can just place it
on your website with a link directly to it, just as you would
with a regular web page. Or you may want to get involved in a
video blogging community; if you do this, each community will
have its own rules for putting your new vblog up and arranging
introductory information around it, and you should read this
carefully.

You should also read the users agreement carefully. Some video
blogging sites may not accept vblogs with certain types of
content; others may help promote certain types of content. You
definitely need to know what your chosen video blogging
community will help with and what they frown upon.

After posting your video blog, download it once and look at it
carefully. Does it download quickly? How is the video quality?
Anything you need to change?

Once you’re happy with your new vblog, promote it. Set up a link
in your email signature line, or post links to it on bulletin
boards you frequent. Creating the vblog is only half the work;
someone has to view it now!

To help ensure your vblog is not lost in the shuffle, create
some text around it, too. The major search engines only search
text, not video. You must give them text to categorize your
vblog, or they will ignore it.

What Else Should I Know About Video Blogging?

A great additional tool you can use for your video blog is an RSS feed. This is a
technology that allows people to subscribe to your video blog
and have it download to their electronic device automatically,
(it can download to a computer, a PDA, a phone, and doubtless by
now other devices.)

Congratulations! You have become a video broadcaster now, the
star of your own tiny network.

Posted in Blogs + Bookmarks by admin on the January 26th, 2009

Blogging is easy, blogging is fun. And what’s more…it can help your business in a lot of ways. A blog is a frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and web links in the cyberspace. How to profit from Blogging?

Now that you have understood what a blog is and how to get blogging, its time to make it pay. Blogging is a great way to enhance your online company’s bottomline. It is a popular and an easy medium and has potential of reaching millions.

Here are some tips for you to turn blogging into a serious profitable strategy.

1. Customer Interaction: A blog is a good means to keep in touch with your customers regularly. You can keep them updated on new events, happening in your company, new products and services and other developments. the best part is that you can do it more cost effectively and in much less time than other methods like newsletters, customer updates and customer meetings. The elements of interactivity, community and collaboration are key here. Your blog can also serve as a platform for advertising, promotion and even internal communications. One well-known business example is software company Macromedia’s use of blogging to keep customers updated on what’s happening with its products.

2. Query management: With a blog you can receive and answer to customer queries more quickly than an email. For potential customers it is very important to have a sharp turnaround and you can do that easily with a blog.

3. Link to other sites: Linking your blog to other similar, but not competing, sites is a great way to get some free publicity and traffic for your online business. It is also one big reason why Search Engines will grab your site in their result pages. Ask any online entrepreneur what getting quality traffic to a website means and you’ll know what I am talking about.

4. Get Feedback: Getting feedback from your customers on your products and services, on your company practices and other things is one of the most valuable resources you can build. With a blog, it is not just easier but also time saving for customers to leave feedback for you without filling complicated and mile long forms.

5. Get Google to work for you: Selling ad space is one of the most popular revenue streams for online businesses. With Google’s free AdSense service it just got easier www.google.com/adsense. AdSense allows bloggers to display up to three content-specific “ad units” (boxes that can hold up to four ads each) per page. Each time a visitor clicks these ads, you get paid. Need more convincing?

6. Become an affiliate: Your blog can become a cash cow by using the simple idea of becoming an affiliate for other websites. An affiliate basically carries a link to the other site and each time some one clicks on that link, you get a small commission for it.

7. Donations: If you are running a blog that people love to read and keep coming back in hordes, why not ask them for some monetary appreciation?

Put on your thinking cap and let your imagination run unbridled. You will surprise yourself with the number of ideas that will make your blog less of a personal e-diary and more of a digital cash cow. Blogging is a relatively new marketing arena for webpreneurs, but has immense possibility and potential. Be sure to get on to the bandwagon early in the game and reap your benefits later.
