Protect Yourself from the British Credit Crunch with Affordable Office Furniture

Posted in Better Shopping by admin on the April 28th, 2009

The UK recession might well be a wary situation for any local business, especially with the rate of companies having to make staff redundant in the last seven months. With the economic turndown it really makes most business owners to decide to cut budgets for things like workplace furniture. With all that in mind, most organisation owners are now looking at used furniture or uncostly furniture. Buy the latest Monitor Stands and get it delivered to your office from CFW.

Long gone are the days when companies would kit the place of work in oak and pine antique flooring and desks from the Victorian era and enjoy marble flooring at reception. Many now use bargain office furniture. The incredible thing about bargain furniture is that finance directors might well actually get much more for your money than organisation owners would expect. For the same cost of an antique pine reception desk, owners might probably afford to purchase a woodchip reception desk, office chair, filing unit and office plants.

With the UK recession, many firms will be seeking for ways to minimise outgoings. Assessing the cost that is not necessary might help legions of firms free up money to improve their money situation. So next time business owners are seeking to find office furniture be fully aware that there is a cheaper option out there if organisation owners look for it.

Increase Your Pet Store Sales by 540%

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the April 27th, 2009

I hope I have grabbed your attention, but yes, this is achievable. I have clients who have turned a stock turn of 5 into a 34 stock turn a year who will vouch that 540% is easily achievable.

But how and where can you achieve this? Every pet store has a power position within its store.

Some retailers know the power of this position and develop their own strategies to manage this location and do not need the help of suppliers or retail consultants.

The majority of retailers do not realise the potential and need the help of suppliers to make it happen.

They need a positive partnership rather than a supplier just delivering product.

So Where are These Magical Positions?

The power spot is the position in a pet store where you can guarantee 100% of consumers will see 100% of product.

Those suppliers and retailers who have stores in countries where they drive on the left hand side of the road will have consumers who generally prefer to circulate stores in a clockwise direction. If your market is based on right hand sided driving, then customers generally prefer to circulate the store in a counter clockwise direction.

Prior to building a power spot, you need to know the natural customer flow in the store you are working with ….. for Australians it’s clockwise.

Once that has been agreed on, you can then position the power spot location. Generally consumers take 4 to 6 steps into the store, the transition zone, before they will focus on a display. The position after those few steps is the power spot location.

Once you decide on the power spot, you have then got to make it work.

Ideally, keep the display circular to create a traffic island, the radius being no more than an arm’s length to enable you to maximise the sales space.

Shoppers buy from the belly button to chin height and this means you may need to dummy up the base of the display to maximise sales.

Research tells us that conical power displays are by far the best shape to maximise sales and therefore the way you build the display is critically important.

Keep it Simple Sells

Customers have only just walked into the store and are not ready for complex messages.

To make the power display work they need one story. This may be a one-product display or alternatively a one-story display.

The key is it must be a simple message for the customer to understand at this location. Remember, the power display must be topical. I would advise changing the display based on the average number of visits a customer makes to the store e.g. if the average consumer visits the store 12 times a year, then change the displays 12 times a year in the power location.

Build and Spoil

If customers compliment you on your great displays, it may mean they are not working. The key is to build a display and then make it look as if it has already been shopped by taking one product away. A spoilt display gives consumers confidence to shop the display, an unspoilt display may stay that way for longer than you want.

All displays must have signs. In a future article I will discuss signage in some depth, but remember a display without a sign is not a display; you have not finished the job.

If You Cannot Measure it, You Cannot Manage it!

All displays should be measured for their performance. If a display is not working, it is because it is the wrong product in the wrong place at the wrong time and the only thing to do is change the display. I would recommend someone be appointed to manage displays, as they are so important to the success of the business.

If you are not involved in power displays, now is the time, before someone else grabs the power position.

Power Display Tips

•Locate 4 steps into the store

•Make them circular

•Make them conical

•Be topical

•Dummy up the base

•Spoil the display

•Change regularly

•Don’t forget the sign

•Keep it simple

Hurricane Katrina: A Lesson in Emergency Preparedness for Yo

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the April 27th, 2009

Heart wrenching images of Hurricane Katrina’s four-legged victims are too much for most of us to bear. Fortunately the majority of people around the country have their loving companions next to them while they are watching the devastating news of dogs left to fend for themselves and people making the choice of their pet or their own rescue. A disaster such as Hurricane Katrina is not a common occurrence, but it does bring up important questions about what you would do with your dog if an emergency did arise in your household and you were unable to return to your home. Some important facts to keep in mind:

• Is your dog microchipped? The majority of shelters have a scanning device that can read the microchip that is placed under your dog’s skin. The microchip carries important identifying information for your dog and can be provided at many shelters and vet’s offices for a nominal fee in a matter of seconds.

• Make sure your dog has a collar with updated identification tags. This is a simple way for people to contact you if your dog has been found.

• Find out where lost dogs are taken in your neighborhood. Some cities have a central location where dogs are placed for the first 24-48 hours before being relocated to area shelters. Save yourself time by doing a little research now!

• Have a sign in your window so emergency personnel know that there is a pet inside your home that needs to be rescued.

• Have a designated person(s) to check in on your pet in case of an emergency. Give them a list of reputable boarding facilities just in case they are not able to take your dog into their own home.

• Where are your local emergency vet clinics? You do not want to be scrambling for this information when your dog needs immediate care.

• Is your dog up to date on vaccinations? If your dog is placed in a shelter, boarding facility, or lost on the street you want to make sure that he is protected against diseases that he would not otherwise be exposed to in your home.

• Where can you go with your dog if you must leave your home unexpectedly? Keep a list of dog-friendly hotels so you know where you can go if you are unable to stay in your home.

• Bring familiar objects for your dog. If possible, grab a favorite toy or dog bed with familiar scents that can reduce anxiety in a stressful situation.

• Never underestimate the power of the internet! Email yourself or a friend a picture of your dog so you have a picture available to post in case of separation. You can send the picture to local shelters and websites such as Craigslist.com or Petfinder.com.

A little advanced planning on your part could be the difference between a happy reunion or heartache for you and your dog. While we all pray that we will never need to use this information, having it on hand as a quick reference can bring some peace of mind in an emergency situation.

HOW TO TEACH THE “SEND AWAY”!

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the April 26th, 2009

Hello Adam.
I would firstly like very much to thank you for the fantastic information in the book! Wow! It has made the training of our new dog so much easier than I could possibly expect!
I live on a small farm in Victoria Australia and am currently in the process of training our new dog “Toby”(a border collie). I think we maybe have a head start as he is quite smart and soft natured but the techniques in you book work a treat and I find I hardly have to do anything to maintain a healthy working relationship with him. I do however get frustrated at people who I try to explain why he is so well behaved and happy etc.. .etc… when they think I am some kind of dog basher!?? The comments have even been “He is a lovely well behaved dog but I’ve heard about your training techniques (with negative intonation!).”
I don’t understand why people can’t see that this way you can train a behavior in minutes and with only one or two corrections rather than months or years of yelling at the dog for the same problem with monotonous inconsistency! (What they also don’t know is that a correction for Toby doesn’t need to be much to be motivational)
At least the dog knows! He is happy– well behaved– he can be inside safely without worry of disasters. He is quiet and confident-house trained–does sit/down (and stays down)/paw/crawl/bow/find/ and come from as far away as he can hear me(well come+down anyway, I haven’t tried the others). He also is safe around our horses when we work them, as we have boundary trained him to the arena and will hold a down stay if needed elsewhere. And he is only five months old!! It is almost like magic!
Now for the Question. I struggled to come up with one as the basic principles seem to solve pretty much everything. I would like to know a good way to teach him to go away/back or to go left or right in a controlled way(sort of working dog stuff really). I don’t know if this makes sense and it may sound unusual but it would be quite useful on the farm as well as fun and interesting for me and him (He seems to like jobs to do!)
I hope you can help me as I cant figure out a good way to do it? I would rather not use sheep to teach it as I am afraid he might then feel the need to work sheep or ducks or whatever at other times. Maybe this isn’t a problem anyway as he doesn’t misbehave. I wouldn’t like to create a temptation though? (Besides I don’t know what I am doing with working training anyway and wouldn’t like to stuff it up!) Any suggestions would be well appreciated.
Sorry this is so long but I am really enthusiastic!
- Oliver.
Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia.

Dear Oliver:
Set a plate with a cookie on it, off in the distance. (Point B).
Start a Point A, with the dog, and with a broad hand motion, point to the plate and say, “Go out.”
Your dog will run in the direction you point, to the plate.
Gradually move the plate farther away.
Then find a shallow hill, and place the plate on top of the hill. Point, and do the same things as described above.
After you’ve been doing this consistently for several days, begin placing the plate “behind the horizon,” but let the dog see you do it.
Next, do it again (after a few successful days) but don’t let the dog see you put the plate out.
Repeat in a variety of situations, always using the same command.

How to Ride the Winds of Change

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the April 24th, 2009

We humans can learn a lot from animals. Our frisky wild friends are smart. They are natural Change Riders. That's why many species have been around this earth for millions of years. They go with the current, instead of against it. In fact, they've learned to anticipate life's changes and prepare for the inevitable with grace and ease.

Why Wait?

Many species of animals exhibit pre-adaptive behavior — a very wise approach to life's constant undulations. Animals don't wait until life has them up against a wall forcing a shift. Sensing the new demands of life coming down the pike, animals take the initiative. For example, many mammals developed longer body hair generations before the coming of the last Ice Age. So when the freezing temperatures came, these species were ready to deal with the new cold climate.

Sensing the Future

Precognition, or the intuitive ability to see into the future, is common with most animals. Critters usually know when a disaster is about to occur. Animals will head for high ground above the flood plain of a river hours before the cresting waters head their way. And since the beginning of recorded history, virtually every culture in the world has reported observations of unusual animal behavior prior to earthquakes.

In 373 BC, historians recorded that creatures deserted the Greek city of Helice in droves just days before the town was devastated and fell into the sea. The Greek historian Diodorus Siculus wrote that snakes, weasels, rats, centipedes, worms and beetles headed inland in huge numbers before the disaster. Before a 1783 earthquake in Messina, Italy, the howling of dogs in the street was so loud that the authorities issued orders to kill them.

Animal Intuition Saves the Day

It was the Chinese who were the first to successfully forecast a major earthquake using observation of animal behavior. On February 4, 1975, the Chinese successfully evacuated the city of Haicheng, a city of one million people, only days before a 7.3 magnitude earthquake — based primarily on observations of unusual animal activity. 90% of the city's structures were destroyed in the quake, but since the entire city's population had been evacuated before the quake struck, few were injured. An estimated 240,000 lives were saved.

In 1989, Jim Berkland, a geologist in Santa Clara County, California, predicted the Lomo Prieta 7.1 magnitude earthquake by observing the number of advertisements for lost cats in local newspapers. Berkland reported that after a decade of observation, he noticed that cats tend to disappear shortly before earthquake activity.

In his book When the Snakes Awake, Helmut Tributsch lists a large number of recorded instances of extremely unusual animal behavior before an earthquake. These include seabirds flying inland, cattle reluctant to enter their stalls, fish jumping out of the water onto dry land, bees evacuating their hive in a panic, deep sea squid coming up to the ocean surface, and bears and snakes coming out of hibernation prematurely.

Rats Play Lifesaver

Another example of our lifesaving furry friends is the tendency of rats to desert a ship that is doomed to sink. Historically, sailors wouldn't board ships that the ship's rats had evacuated. Seaman had learned that a ship without rats meant that there was something fatally wrong with the ship, or that the vessel was destined to encounter disaster of some kind.

The Snow's A Comin'

And in less dramatic examples we take for granted, every wild animal senses and prepares for seasonal changes. Geese fly south way before the weather gets cooler. Squirrels stock up on nuts in the summer for the inevitable cold of winter.

Heed the Early Warning Signs

Humans could take a page or two from the animal survival guide. Life gives us signs, also, to direct us along life's rambling road. If we pay attention, these messages can help us to flow better with the present, and thereby, the future. And — have you noticed? — if we don't get the message, life gives us a lesson. If we don't get the lesson, life gives us a problem. If we don't handle the problem, life gives us a crisis. A wise person chooses to get the initial message!

Take Action

In the Lakota Indian language, the word for “to get the message” is the same word as their word for “my life has changed.” In other words, in the Lakota culture, if people don't take action on life's signs and make changes in their behavior, they didn't really “get the message.” For the Lakota, receiving guidance and acting on it are one and the same. Unfortunately, in our modern society, we have the socially acceptable habit of saying we get the messagebut then not taking the appropriate action on it. A very counterproductive cultural trait!

Like the animals, smart humans learn to successfully navigate through the myriad of life choices by acting on the precise guidance system that the outer world constantly presents. Not only do native peoples live this way, so did all ancient civilizations — right through the time of the Greeks up to the Middle Ages. Even Shakespeare's plays are full of references to sensing omens and signs — and the human folly of not honoring their directives. It's only in the last few hundred years — since the Industrial Revolution and human alienation from the land and nature — that we have lost touch with the art and wisdom of reading and following life's outer signposts.

A Change Surfer opens the door to more magic, meaning and money in his or her world by heeding the wisdom of life's signals. Practice makes perfect. As we master the skill of responding to the messages aligning us with our spirit's unique path, we will prosper — and enjoy the journey!

Make Love Last Longer!

If we embrace change in our love life, we can extend the honeymoon and afterglow indefinitely! Partnerships in which each party encourages the other to explore and grow can deepen as they transform. Relationships that are allowed to naturally evolve can last years, even decades — even lifetimes!

Re-Spirit Your Life

The effectiveness of your own personal style of dealing with change defines the level of success that can be achieved. Create a change-friendly attitude and approach that is exciting and playful. Catch the joy of your own spirit! Develop passion in your heart. People who have a fire in their belly and a zest for life can overcome all of life's surprises. A Change Rider stretches his or her consciousness to envision what's possible, not just what is. If you foster your natural strengths, you can respond successfully to all life's challenges.

What’s Your Dream in Life? My Love of Winning the Euro Lotto plus Living a Life of Opulence for the Rest of My Life

Posted in Better Bets, Gambler Den, Universe Of Games by admin on the April 24th, 2009

My acquaintance Adam calls me on the telephone to inform me that he has discovered some on-line gambling websites that I just have to check over. I’ve never really been heavily into gambling, but I figured okey, I will give it a go. And So I tested out some poker and blackjack, only truthfully, they just aren’t my cup of tea. So I find these on-line lottery sites and I figure that all over the internet I can play lots of different lotteries around the globe. Straight Off to me this appears a heap more joy, and so I considered I will give it a try out. Firstly I tried my luck at euro millions, you know a European lottery. I chose my lottery numbers and then awaited and imagined that I would win it big. I didn’t on that event only when the euromillions results came out; I was extremely surprised to realise that I had actually come very close to the winning numbers. I sought out a couple of other world lotteries, only I felt that I had come so close the first time on the euromillions, that I honestly had to give it one more go. Up until now, I haven’t won millions of dollars, but, I have scooped some money, so I continue to play the euromillions and picking lotto winning numbers, going for the big break. I am one of those people who like to believe in the possibility of hitting the jackpot, because it is hard to think getting that kind of money some other way.

As for my acquaintance, he still stays on with his love of on-line gambling and finds himself at the online casino for at least an hour a day. He too has won some money, but it has high’s and low’s and the difference is, when you lose at gambling you usually lose a good deal but when you lose at the e-lottery, it doesn’t cost you very much. I think that the lottery is the only way for me to go plus the idea of winning it big and on top of that, it’s only costing me just a few pounds “makes all the difference”.

Graduation Diplomas For All

Posted in Civvies, Stuff for Kids, Teaching + Training by admin on the April 21st, 2009

Graduation Diploma

A graduation diploma is usually conferred to students who have accomplished their studies in the respective levels of education. The handing over of graduation diplomas is marked by celebrations as family and friends celebrate the academic achievements of their loved ones. At university and college levels, these ceremonies are marked by unique dresses worn by both the trustees’ and the degree candidates. In these two levels of education, graduation occurs when degrees are conferred upon the candidates by a presiding officer either en masse or individually, even in cases where the graduation diploma is physically received at a smaller departmental ceremony.

Graduation diplomas are attractive and are a representation of significant amounts scholastic achievements. They should be safely kept after graduating from a specific program or school and should ensure that there are certified transcripts of the original. A graduation diploma is ideal for framing because it is suitably decorative and may also play the role of proving competency to clients when framed and displayed in an office. Students who are incapable of meeting the graduation requirements usually receive documents that have similarities to a graduation diploma known as a completion certificate. Completion certificates are sometimes only offered by certain programs, but the actual degree or graduation is not offered.

Bookcase for Barristers: Part Two

Posted in Better Shopping, Information Info, Literati by admin on the April 21st, 2009

A Barrister’s bookcase is a traditionalistic shelf that is believed to have originated in the UK. Its discerning feature is a pure glass front end. This glass face is hinged at the side allowing a person clean access to volumes and other legal papers plainly by lifting the glass door. The barrister bookcase is perfect for many things. A barrister bookcase was frequently used by a attorneys since it was often necessary for them to move. Now, they are also very handy, peculiarly if one is incessantly moving. This is because the bookcase is closed by use of doors.. This enables volumes and collectibles to be moved while still inside the bookcase while still keeping them.

Great Shelves
Exceptional Barrister’s Bookshelves avoid the use of the normal sideways opening doors and use doors that have the up and over opening mechanism. A metal scissor device used inside the barrister shelves ensure the moving doors do it in a parallel fashion without having the doors jammed or skew in the procedure. One advantage of using the barrister bookcase and shelves is the ability to have some of these units stacked together and have them secured to a wall. These bookcases give the effect of an appealing cabinet. They can be made out of a number of materials Whether madeemploying wood or glass, barristers give an elgance to a room.

This special kind of furniture, despite many benifits, can be rather pricy. Luckily, their many advantages have moved some producers to start creating replica editions and some in modern versions at very small prices. Many editions have simple appearances and can be made to fit a particular theme. They can also be made into customized at little cost. The fact that they can be stacked together allows them to be easily used to create very interesting unit arrangements. Some can be used to create end tables, breakfronts or even dining areas.
