Fight Spam and Fortify Your Web Site with RSS
RSS is the answer to the Spam epidemic of the past. Spam, any mass distribution of material across the Internet, can cause systems to back up and crash with unwanted and unsolicited material. Some of this material may be offensive to the people who visit your website and drive away potential viewers or customers.
Spam clogs networks and takes the place of real news and interesting articles. To effectively fight Spam, utilize RSS technology to ensure your website is at the height of its game. This technology screens and sorts material so you only get what you specifically want.
RSS technology utilizes an editor or reader to sort through data. RSS feeds are often one line of text that details the title of the article and gives a brief explanation of the kind of information given in the article. RSS readers often distinguish between Spam and real content by recognizing mass distribution or carbon copies.
This function ensures you are not receiving Spam that has been mass emailed out, but are receiving legitimate news from legitimate services you subscribe to. RSS readers can be downloaded from sites, and often are associated with specific and well-known news services.
This technology has been supported by Microsoft, and is being touted as the new wave in information distribution over the Internet. RSS readers can be set to screen fro certain titles, certain content, certain origins, and certain carbon copies. You can tailor your RSS to your specific site, or leave your specifications broad to get a general idea of the news of the day.
As this technology takes of, web sites are springing up that allow individuals to create their own RSS system that serves as a sort of home page with the news they are interest in reading. This technology offers an opportunity to further tailor your news offerings and saves you large quantities of time formerly spent sifting through Spam.
RSS feeds provide you an opportunity to tailor the time you spend on the Internet to your exact news needs. RSS editors can be used also to create your own RSS. An RSS format ensures your information will be treated seriously and will not be handled as Spam. Using an RSS editor is simple to learn, and will save a lot of time and energy.
RSS marketing can help you target specific RSS sites and to earn screen time on reputed web sites. With RSS marketing, your information is taken seriously and treated as news rather than Spam.
This marketing approach provides your product information to a large audience without the aggravation causing mass email approach that many companies try and fail with. RSS technology is a wave of the future, and offers you an opportunity to get the best news as well as earn a spot on websites that matter.

Golf Cart Injuries Are on the Rise?
If you are looking for a golf cart for sale you may want to rethink your decision to buy one - at least that’s what some US authorities think. According to the latest figures, it appears as if golf cart related injuries are on the rise and look to be increasing even further in the future. In a recent article by Trantololaw they stated: “Oddly enough, golf carts are causing a greater number of injuries in recent years. A July 2008 American Journal of Preventive Medicine article related that, from 1990 until 2006, accident rates rose more than 130 percent. Almost 150,000 golf cart-related injuries were recorded during this time period in people from two months old to 96 years old.” The rise in injuries has also been echoed by authorities in Newnan and some cities in Iowa as they fear an increase in injuries. However, the rise of injuries could be due to an increase in people using them on the streets without adequate training. In Ely, this has been recognized and although golf carts are street legal, riders must have a license and use protective equipment as well as displaying adequate signage on their cart when they are using it on the roads.

Eel And Eelskin Lures
Eel and eelskin lures are used mostly in saltwater to catch such fish as striped bass, bluefish, snook, and marlin. The most difficult part about making eel and eelskin lures will often be obtaining the eels themselves. The eel usually used is the so-called “common eel” found from Labrador to Brazil along the Atlantic Coast.
The females reach a large size and live in freshwater rivers, streams, and lakes. The males are much smaller and live in saltwater bays, sounds, and tidal creeks. These are the ones usually used for bait. Live eels are caught with eel pots baited with dead fish, small baitfish, crushed clams, or crabs.
These pots, which are similar to minnow traps, are wire cages with funnel entrances on both ends. The eels enter through the
funnel holes, but once inside have trouble finding their way out.
Live or frozen eels can also be purchased from many fish markets, bait dealers, and fishing tackle stores. The size will depend on the fishing tackle you use and the fish you want to catch. Small eels from 8 to 12 in. long are best with light tackle such as spinning outfits; the larger eels from 12 to 20 in. are used with heavier surf outfits and for trolling for big fish.
To rig an eel you will need a long needle such as an upholsterer’s needle. It should be anywhere from 12 to 14 in. long. You can also make your own needle, using a brass or copper rod about 1/8 in. in diameter. One end should be filed to a point while the other end is given an eye or a slot to which a line can be tied.
You also need some 6/0, 7/0, 8/0 or 9/0 hooks, again depending on the size of the eel. The larger the eel, the larger the hooks required. Light tackle and lines need smaller hooks than heavier fishing tackle. The sizes of hooks range from 10 (tiny) down to 1 (small) and then back up from 1/0, 2/0 (medium) through 8/0 (large) and all the way up to 24/0 (great white shark size).
Steel is usually the base metal from which hooks are made but there are also other types of steel including high carbon, blued, black, bronzed, cadmium, nickel-plated, stainless, etc. The O’Shaughnessy pattern of hook is usually used for rigging eels, but some anglers prefer the Siwash or salmon pattern and still others use Eagle Claw hooks. Whichever type of hook you use, it should have a ringed eye.
Finally, you need some linen or nylon fishing line testing from 45 to 60 pounds. But more importantly, you should pay more attention to your fishing leader which is potentially the weakest link. More information on making fishing leaders can be found at my website.

Martial Arts Secret Gives You Instant Advantage When Unexpectedly Attacked
Imagine this: You’re in your bathroom at night, nothing on but a towel. Your kids are sleeping, your wife is in the kitchen. You notice a shadow moving outside the window.
You walk over and investigate. You see a guy with a baseball bat creeping in through your bedroom window. You rush over there — in a near panic — to head him off.
Too late.
When you get in your bedroom, he’s already inside. He’s either high on drugs or crazy. He has spittle running down his chin and he’s twitching every half a second.
You’re in your towel. Your mobility is limited. Your kids are still asleep in the next room. Your wife is still in the kitchen.
What do you do?
Well, in this situation, and especially if my mobility was limited by a towel or whatever, the first thing I’d do is pick up something — anything — as a weapon.
If I didn’t have something to use as a weapon (it never hurts to have a baseball bat under your bed, btw), then I would use what’s sometimes called a “makeshift” weapon.
What’s a makeshift weapon?
It’s a weapon you make on the fly by modifying ordinary objects in your immediate surroundings.
For example, you can grab a metal coat hanger and bend it into an edged weapon.
You can grab a belt, and use the metal buckle as a sort of crude “morning star” like the ancient medieval knights used.
You can grab the bar in our closet you hang your clothes on, and use it as a bo staff.
You can even do something as basic and simple as taking an ordinary padlock in your palm, with your forefinger through the arch, and use it as a sort of brass knuckle.
Whatever the case, with a little bit of thought, you can make a weapon out of thin air, with just the regular objects around you. And when you start thinking about it and practicing doing it, you will give yourself that much more of an advantage if you are unexpectedly attacked.

Facts about Martial Arts for Kids (Part 5)
“Will my child become more violent from learning karate, jujitsu, or another martial art?”
In a word, “No.” Children learn self-control by practicing martial arts; and the code of conduct that is enforced, within the studio, is carried outside into every day life. The average martial arts school works with parents, and academic teachers, toward the goal of optimum student success.
When you see a Karate demonstration team perform, that is not an indicator of the life skills taught within the Karate class. It is the “flashiest” component of Karate training, presented to capture the public attention. Ten minutes of kids using ancient weapons, breaking, and working in synchronized choreography, is more interesting to the public, than a lecture, by me, about dealing with bullies without violence.
However, let’s take a closer look at the ten minutes of flash. The next time you see a martial arts demonstration team, remember those children have to practice those techniques over and over again. This requires self-discipline, goal setting, perseverance, and each child being a team player.
There is no room for a “one way” personality on any martial arts demonstration team. Such a personality would work against a good public performance. In a typical Karate class, all of the above-mentioned life skills are learned and much more.
Children learn much more about violence on the television, playing with video games, and dealing with daily life, than they will ever learn in a karate class. Even if a Karate teacher was the classic “evil sensei,” that you may have seen in the Karate Kid movie or on Kung Fu Theatre, most children can think of far worse violence.
All you have to do is watch the news, cartoons, listen to the radio, or read a newspaper, to see things worse than unsupervised hand-to-hand combat. So, the self-defense methods taught to children actually pale in comparison to school shootings, bombings, wars, and drive-by shootings.
Karate was created by unarmed civilians on the island of Okinawa and was taught in secret among family members for their personal protection. The philosophy, within a martial arts school, will not always be the same, but the seeds of violence are not sown within a martial arts setting.
All you have to do is look around you to see more, and far worse, violence than learning self-defense - integrated with constructive life skills. The fact is a martial artist is not a “street fighter.” If that were a requirement, we would recruit the toughest kids in North Providence.
As I explain to the children in my Karate and Jujitsu classes, “Never forget the word, “artist,” means to be creative, to be an innovator, and to think for yourself.” Children who learn martial arts are more apt to be well adjusted and defuse a potentially violent situation.
On top of that, most children who study Karate, or any other martial art, will not be “trouble makers.” The children we teach from the Greater Providence, Rhode Island area have learned enough about leadership, in our Karate and Jujitsu classes, to think for themselves.
For parents, the gift of martial arts training to their children has many rewards, right now, and into their future.

How To Stop Spam (Especially If You’re Already a Victim)
Spam. Those annoying, time-consuming emails that clog your Inbox and ruin your day. You wonder: How did it ever get so bad? While it’s not possible to completely eliminate spam, there are quite a few things you CAN do about the problem to reduce your burden.
Spam is defined as an unsolicited email trying to get you to buy something. In addition, it’s email that tries to get you to give up something: your credit card number, social security number, login ID, etc., by pretending to be a legitimate email. Here are some tips for stopping the current spam you’re getting, and avoiding getting on new spam lists.
1. Maintain two email addresses: a Personal Email Address (that you give to family, friends and business associates), and a Safe Email Address (one you use whenever you’re ordering something online, signing up for an email newsletter, or creating a profile on a website).
For instance, I use a Hotmail account for my Safe Email Address. If a spammer were to get a hold of that address, fine. All the spam will go into my Hotmail account, which I only look at once a week. Hotmail has a great anti-spam filter built in, so it’s easy to see what’s spam and what’s not. This practice leaves my personal email account relatively spam-free (maybe I get two spam emails a day to my personal account). Some free email services include Hotmail, Yahoo and GMail (Google’s new email service).
2. Use your Safe Email Address to send emails to companies who might be harvesting email addresses from incoming emails. For example, say you want to write to a company to ask them about their products. Some companies will harvest your email address from the email you send to them, and put you on their mailing list. By using your Safe Email Address, you can avoid seeing messages from these companies come to your personal email address.
3. Stop giving your email address to everyone who wants it. Does your local bank really need your email address? Does your grocery store need it? Just because someone asks for it doesn’t mean you have to give it to them. If it’s a non-local company, or you are signing up for a mailing list, then they probably do need it. But it’s okay to leave the email address blank when filling out forms. Always ask yourself, Do I want to be contacted by this company via email? (Speaking of mailing lists, make sure the companies you subscribe to have a public, posted Privacy Statement on their website.)
4. Do not put your Personal Email Address on your website. Instead, use a form so that your email address is hidden. However, some spammers use special software that looks at the HTML code hidden in the form to steal your email address, so using a form by itself isn’t always the safest route. Better yet, use a free Form Processor so that your email address is never even in the HTML coding on your pages.
The service I use is Bravenet’s Form processor (www.bravenet.com). You can see ours in action here: http://www.passionforbusiness.com/send-email.htm
5. Never buy anything that’s sent through a spam email. First, it just encourages them to continue to spam. Second, it tells them that your email address is accurate, and they can then sell that address to someone else.
6. Never reply to spam and ask to be unsubscribed. They’ll just ignore it anyway, and it tells them that your email address is accurate, which just keeps you on the list. Note: many legitimate emails newsletters and mailing lists use automated unsubscribe links at the bottom of their emails, and you CAN use these to get off of mailing lists.
7. Use anti-spam software, like Norton Internet Security, on your own PC to filter spam as it comes into your email system. You still receive the spam, but it gets filtered to a Junk Mail or Bulk Mail folder, and segregates the spam from the legitimate email. Most anti-spam filters need to be trained, however, so you’ll have to occasionally tell the filter that something is NOT spam that it inadvertently put into the Junk Mail folder. Many of these anti-spam filters work on the principle of White Lists (legitimate email addresses that you DO want to receive email from) and Black Lists (spammer email addresses that you do NOT want to receive email from). Learn how to train your anti-spam software and it will work wonders for you.
8. Check to see if your ISP or hosting company has anti- spam technology in place, to catch spam before it even hits your Inbox. Be careful, though, because sometimes these filters are over-zealous and you have to train it to accept emails from mailing lists that you have subscribed to.
9. Do not use a catch-all email address. A catch-all email address is set up if you have your own website, and it is intended to catch all of the incoming emails sent to your domain even if there is no legitimate mailbox by that name. For example, your email address might be mary@mydomain.com. If that mailbox is set up as a catch all, and someone sends an email to marie@mydomain.com (with a spelling mistake in the email name), it will be forwarded to mary@mydomain.com. However, spammers know about catch-all email addresses, and will take your domain name mydomain.com and add common prefixes to it, like info@ or admin@. If you have a catch- all, then those spamming emails will come to you, even if you don’t have a legitimate mailbox of info@mydomain.com or admin@mydomain.com set up with your hosting company. See how easy it is for spammers to get to you?
10. Finally, if spam is really bad, create a new personal email address for yourself, tell everyone about the new address (give them several reminders that you are changing email addresses), then delete the old personal email address. This may seem a little drastic, but if you receive 200 spam emails a day, it might be time to time this final step to eradicate it.
You are not powerless against spam. But you do have to take action to fight back. Don’t let them bully you into accepting hundreds of unwanted emails a day! Take action now to reclaim your Inbox!
